I'm trying to track down the owner of a gen1 Scion xB in RI. He was sitting on I-195 with a flat tire and had no jack, lug wrench or spare. I offered to loan him my spare and used my jack & lug wrench to help him swap it. I gave him my contact info and he promised to drop off the spare in a few days when he'd gotten a replacement tire.
Well it has been
months
now, and I haven't heard from him, nor gotten my spare back. I'm just trying to track him down so I can get my spare tire back so
I
don't get stuck with a flat somewhere.
His box is silver(Thundercloud metallic) with a black-primer spoiler and a severely slammed static-drop suspension. When I met him he was running VW alloys.
If you know him or his box sounds familiar please let me know so I can get back the tire I loaned him and he decided to steal.
EDIT: Yes I shouldn't have trusted him, Yes I should have gotten his contact info. However unless you have a time machine I can use to go back and change that, comments to that effect aren't really helpful.

You didn't take his contact info? Or even write down his license plate?

Nope. We talked xBs for a while and he showed me shots of his at various shows, we talked about what forums were were both on, etc. He seemed like a very stand up guy, and he was the one who asked for my contact info first so he could get the tire back to me. So I trusted that he would do what he said.
I tend to be very trusting, it gets me screwed sometimes.

Don't get me wrong, it's very nice of you but I'd be sure to get his plate and at least a phone number and follow up a couple of days afterwards.
Unfortunate that he hasn't followed through, I hope it works out for you.

And what did you learn?
Don't be nice to people...
(Just kidding)
Never trust someone to call you back; ALWAYS get their info so you can call them.

Yeah, I know I should have now. At the time I was in a bit of a rush and distracted. I also though I remembered his name and the username he commonly used, but got distracted by an unrelated problem when I got home and promptly forgot them.

If you forgot/lost his info, maybe he forgot/lost yours.

I didn't make note of it, and depended only on my memory. I watched him save mine in his phone under my name. So while it is possible, the odds are not in favor of him being unable to contact me.

Fair enough. And I'll spare you the sanctimony of a "shoulda got his info."
Looks like all you can do is hope he does the right thing later-instead-of-never, and learn from this experience going forward. Good luck.

You still did good, even if he never pays you back.
Anyway, what's really going to happen is he's going to win $100-million in the lottery, and then naturally he's going to go buy a new cell phone, the best made top-of-the-line, and at the cell-phone dealer the salesman is going to say, "You want to transfer your contacts? Here's a printout." and he's gonna say "Gee who is this 'Pixel' dude, aw fuck , that's the guy with the spare tire and I never returned it!" and then he's gonna come over to your house and say "Hey dude thanks for the spare tire, and here's your new 911!"

Move forward and learn from mistakes. http://providence.craigslist.org/pts/4265109456…
I once was taking payments for a set of tires, got $300 of the $400. It was actually a good bargain because I haven't seen him since. Talk your ear off, 1 upper kinda guy.

There are a lot of variables that could have taken place since then (I.e. he sold the box, deployed, health issues). Personally, I would just move on. You took a chance and it didn't work out. I'm sure you can find a replacement rather easily. Good luck. And... yeah... you still did the right thing, IMHO.

Yeah, I don't really expect much from this. I just figured I'd make one last effort before writing it off for good.

Meh you did something nice for him. Just move on and don't dwell on the few assholes in life. They will drag you down my friend :)
